Formed when a piece of an Asteroid slammed into the earth at some 26,000 miles per hour.
The impact occurred some 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch.
Forming a crater 2.4 miles in circumference and more than 500 feet deep, its estimated the collison released the explosive force of some 20 million tons of TNT.
The rim of the crater rises 150 feet above the surrounding desert plains.
It would have been a bad day for the Woolly Mammoths that inhabited what was grasslands at the time.
